I said I would read this book to see if Beth's story got any better, but unfortunately, for me, it did not. If possible, Beth came off as even weaker in this book than the first. First of all, experienced as a book store owner or not, she did not have to keep taking that crap from someone who "technically" worked for her. I would have kicked that "dragon lady's" behind from here to the moon! That lady was on some other type of evil, and it went on for far too long!Beth's brother was over the top, as usual, but disappeared for days and weeks at a time. How would she be more safe with him if he's not around? Then Beth continued to do things that would be considered TSTL. I mean really! She said she didn't want Shane putting his people at risk for her, but isn't that what they're trained for?! Then she agrees to let a reporter from a newspaper interview her. 👀🤔In what world was that a wise decision knowing that some ex-con pervert was looking for her, hence all the security protection?!And why in the world are all the other men who show any attention to or romantic interest in Beth so darn aggressive?! Grabbing on her and getting all up in her space?! None of them understand the word "no" or "stop" or "not interested?!" I get that some men are ignorant beasts, but they seem to all be attracted to Beth and turn into ignoramus cave men around only her. What was that about?!🙄 I could go on and on, but it's just too much. I enjoyed the first book in the series and really wasn't excited about reading this one as I didn't find Lia interesting from the first book. I felt I should read the series in order though so I purchased the book. I felt the author had a problem letting Lia be the professional bodyguard and keeping Jonah an alpha male. It didn't work for me. I also had a big problem with Jonah deciding to back off and not telling his band first with some sort of compromise. He left them hanging out to find jobs with the caveat that "they were young and could find jobs." What a jerk move that was. I just really had a problem with how these characters were written and I do agree with other reviewers that the sex scenes became repetitive and I began skipping some of the later ones. I will give the third book a chance and hope it gets back some of the flavor of the first.
